A recent study shows that mice have pretty sophisticated singing skills, including the ability to change tunes. While scientists have known that dolphins and various birds possess the same ability as humans to learn and change tunes. Previously, the vocal abilities in mice was believed to be innate.
Scientists believe that mice possess a rudimentary motor control center in their brain, which works in conjunction with the vocal cords to provide voluntary control over pitch and tune. Assuming this hypothesis is correct, the information could lead to more effective studies of speak disorders found in humans. Perhaps most surprising, this connection between the brain and vocal cords is not present in chimps and monkeys.
Mice have the ability to sing in different pitches. As with humans, some mice are tenors, while some have deeper basses. Using this knowledge, scientists placed mice in a cage with other mice who exhibit different pitch. After several weeks, the pitch of the mice had changed to better match the pitch of the other mice in the cage. For example, the tenors developed a deeper sound, while some of the bases had a slightly higher pitch.
Not all scientists agree with the results of the study, however. Some researchers claim that rather than learning new tunes, the observed effects were the result of pitch convergences. In order to gain a better understanding of what this study has shown, plans are under way to examine the brain connections in the mice, as well as the genes and what effects they may have on the vocalization.

Question by Natalie Amani: How is "wasting water" bad if I use well water from my own land? I live on a mini-farm with lots of land and my water comes from an aquifer underground. So how is taking a long shower or whatever a bad thing? Its my own water that comes from rain and its purified through nature basically.. The normal way. I live completely away from everyone. Not another house for miles. Also, the money doesn't really matter to me haha. My parents pay it & they don't complain about the price (and they complain about EVERYTHING) Best answer for How is "wasting water" bad if I use well water from my own land?:

That doesn't make it any less of a limited resource. Other people use that aquifer too, you know.
It's not bad. At worst, you are shoving it through your septic tank and wasting energy to pump it. But it's completely different than being on city water with city sewers. I guess it's bad for the aquifer but I'm assuming your rural town is not gonna hurt from your drawdown and all that.

An aquifer is a limited resource used by many people ... so is it okay for a billion people using the aquifer to take long showers?
People like to make situations seem more extreme than they are. They tell us how water (the most common chemical on the surface) is a limited resource. Well, yeah, it is limited but you will never used enough to run out that limit unles s you don't have rain for a long time. I have well water and I use it to water all my plants (two gardens and flowers) and I still have plenty left. Don't worry. If anything, you are just using up more power to run the pump and most of our methods for getting power are bad for the environment.
Aquifers, like surface water, are gravity powered. They flow gently downward along the terrain toward the ocean, except beneath the surface and much much slower. In other words, they're more like a river, not a pond. This downhill flow means that the water in an aquifer is truly shared among everyone using it, just like a river. Unlike a river, if an aquifer is overused, because it moves so slowly, it can take a very long time to regenerate. Consequently, you should treat it as a shared resource and make efforts not to overuse it. That said, since you are on a farm, household water use is probably a small fraction of your total water use. No point installing one of those tiny shower heads and taking 30 second showers if you're inefficiently watering or overwatering your crops. Make sure your water is being used wisely in the fields, then go ahead and take a nice 3 minute shower, you've earned it.
well water is best good to if it contain required minerals for human.
the electricity used to get that water out of the ground is where the problem is. That extra 10 minutes of shower is equal to leaving a 60watt light bulb on for 14 hours. It's like not shutting off the lights
