[fornadablog.blogspot.com], Endeavour readied for Hollywood closeup in Toyota commercial - Los Angeles Times
As workers prepared to move Endeavour from its specialized transporters to the dollies that would carry it over the 405 Freeway, Manchester Boulevard could have been mistaken for Hollywood.
In addition to the hundreds of spectators snapping photos of the parked shuttle, several camera crews were on hand to film the shuttle's trek over the freeway Friday evening.
Several dozen people with "Endeavour film crew" vests circled the orbiter with sound and camera equipment, the shuttle's weathered body illuminated by stage lights.
Also on hand was a team from Toyota, which donated a Tundra truck to tug the shuttle across the bridge. The computerized transporters that ferried it from Los Angeles International Airport to Manchester Boulevard -- and will take it the rest of the way to the California Science Center in Exposition Park -- did not meet the California Department of Transportation's requirements for the bridge, which is why the dolly system was used.
Toyota plans to use the footage for a commercial, officials said.
Four Toyota employees from the San Antonio plant, where the truck was built, were on hand to watch the move.
"It's amazing," said assembly team member Patty Ramirez. "We're just very proud to be here to witness this."
