[fornadablog.blogspot.com], Shuttle Endeavour sets off on final trip, through LA streets - NBCNews.com

A space shuttle is set to make its first-ever parade through city streets Friday and Saturday, and anyone in the Los Angeles area can get a front-row seat.

The retired shuttle Endeavour, which made its last trip to space in May 2011, is soon set to join the ranks of museum displays at the California Science Center (CSC).

The orbiter flew to California in September from its previous home base at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. Since then, it's been waiting at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) until the museum is ready to receive it. The final leg of its journey is set for later this week.

The space shuttle is due to make the 12-mile trip from LAX to the CSC during a two-day parade beginning before dawn on Friday morning. Over the course of its parade through the streets of Inglewood and Los Angeles, Endeavour will stop for celebrations outside The Forum, the former L.A. Lakers arena, and at a street intersection where "Fame" actress Debbie Allen has choreographed a tribute performance.

Endeavour will roll through the streets atop a special NASA transporter pulled by four computer-controlled vehicles. For a small part of its trip, the shuttle will be towed by a Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The whole progression is being dubbed "Mission 26: The Big Endeavour," as the shuttle previously made 25 missions to orbit. [ Photos: Shuttle Endeavour's California Sightseeing Tour ]

Public viewing will be possible only from select locations, as safety and logistics concerns have forced the police to shut down many streets and sidewalks.

The giant orbiter, which has a 78-foot wingspan and a 58-foot-tall tail, will be a tight squeeze through many roads, where several hundred trees have had to be felled in preparation for the shuttle's passage.

(The CSC Foundation is sponsoring the replanting of up to four trees in place of each downed one, as well as two years of tree maintenance.)

Here's an outline of Endeavour's expected route:

Friday (Oct. 11), 2 a.m. PDT: Endeavour to depart LAX

Friday, mid-morning: Endeavour will take Westchester Boulevard to Sepulveda, where it will stop for about nine hours for power lines to be raised.

Friday, afternoon: Endeavour will continue down Manchester Boulevard, crossing into Inglewood, where it will stop for another six hours for more power line work.

Question by hairbandrules: How much is "drinking too much water"? I drink a lot of water throughout the day(I down about 2-4 big bottles of water). Drinking things are like a habit for me. Not like I feel thirsty or anything. I start out with 2 cups of coffee, water water all day at work, and about 3 beers at home. My friend tells me drinking too much water will dilute my blood! Will it? And if it does, what will happen? Best answer for How much is "drinking too much water"?:

Answer by El Pollo Diablo
100 gallons is too much. If it dilutes your blood you'll just turn into a puddle. Life starts then.

Answer by cin_gonzaga
Well, don't doctors say that a lot of is actually good for us? But as they say, everything in excess is bad. So try to lessen the water obsession. ;]

Answer by melissa
LOL.... there is no such thing.. There is such a thing as drinking too much water at one time.. but throughout the day you are fine. My uncle drinks about 3 gallions of water a day and he's just fine. in fact he's super healthy @_@ You're friend is way wrong.. water is key ingredient in blood. and it needs water to clean itslelf out.. I don't think it is even possible for your body to let your blood be diluted like that, because it only takes th water it needs and lets the rest pass though.

Answer by mattmaul92
I don't think it would dialute your blood, but it would kill you if you had l ike 50 gallons or somethign that you just burst because of all of it... I type medical reports sometimes, and don't rmember seeing anything about someone dialuting your blood, but hey if you drank that much this long, and your still alive then what is it gonna do to ya?

Answer by mimi
to much water is no such thing unless you drink it untill you get sick

Answer by xrey
When you can't breathe anymore, starting to puke. I am the same as I drink anything I get my hands on, no alcohol. I get close to throwing up and I pee a lot. One time I went and pee like 13 times in half a day. I don't think drinking water will dilute your blood. This website talks about water intoxication and they don't talk about blood dilution. http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm

Answer by wonderwoman
There is such a thing as drinking too much water and it is called 'water intoxication' this occurs when a large amount of water causes the dil ution of sodium in your body. This can happen mainly to babies and marathon runners. You are probably unlikely to suffer from water intoxication if your drink the large amounts of water throughout the day rather than in one big hit. The recommended intake of water is between 8 and 12 eight ounce glasses a day. Basically it is possible to drink too much water, but like i said unless you are a baby or marathon runner/athlete it is a relatively uncommon condition.

you can die from drinking too much water(its the #1 death in people who do Ecstasy cause they feel they need more water and really don't its worse then any Cotton mouth you have ever had or I have heard). The first thing you said about coffee well that will make you want to drink more water, plus the coffee will dehydrate you. What is best is weigh yourself and then cut your weight in half. Now for every pound drink one ounce of water but remember that is one once of water per pound after you cut your weight in half. So if you weigh lets say 110 you will drink 55 ounces of water a day max. I am a bigger girl so I drink just a bit more then that and that is ok. Never drink as many ounces as your weight. Unless your really active and if you run allot or workout allot then its ok to and you have to keep your diet good as well so you don't get sick from working out and drinking allot of water. Not knowing what your days are like its hard to tell. I walk allot and run after my 4 and 6 year old kids most of the days (thank god for school). So I can drink a bit more then half my weight. I hope I explained this to you ok I don't want you to get to confused. Plus you can reach me on messenger as well so I can tell you other stuff that can be good for you with allot of water drinking.

Dear hairbandrules, I give you full marks for drinking too much water, water is the most important crucial intake for our body. I drink a lot of water. There is nothing that the blood will dilute, water infact helps to maintain the viscosity of blood upto a certain level thereafter the water is used to hydrate our cells and tissues. This is the main reason of glowing skin. Moreover your kidney will be safe from stones and will work till end. you will be healthy if you drink more water. water helps to eliminate toxic waste from our bodies. Water helps in digestive system and helps regularise the bowel movement. Make sure to drink clean water. Beers, coffee, tea are dehydrants so avoid these. Take them in limited quantity and drink lots of water.

It's usually recommended 8 glasses per day. You should be ok if you have healthy kidney & cardiac function. If you did drink too much, you could dilute the electrolytes (Potassium, Chloride, Calcium, Sodium etc ) in your blood. We need a balanced amount of these in our system. Some symptoms of this are dizziness, weakness, irregular heart rate, muscle cramping etc). Once I had an elderly home health patient that I had to get some blood from to do a lab test. She didn't have good veins so I called her the day before and told her to be well hydrated so she should drink plenty of fluids. It makes it easier to find a good vein if they are hydrated. Well the next day when I arrived, her veins were bulging out! I always had to look very hard to find one so it scared me coz I knew she had overdone it. And with her being older maybe her heart couldn't take the extra fluid. Anyway I learned a lesson from that. I have to be more specific when I ask a patient to do something. I'm gonna give you a break and not preach on the coffee and beer. Have a good day!

Answer by cronos51101
technicaly, almost everyone is dehydrated. if you are actualy properly hydrated, then you should have to go to the bathroom every 30 min. obviously, that is way more than anyone should have to go. drinking too much water will not dilute your blood. your kidneys prevent it. but remember that it does flush stuff from your system. just make sure that you keep you sodium level normal. it might not be a bad idea to throw a botle of gatorade in there every once and a while. ps. it has been proven that if an adult male drinks one beer a day, it will actualy significantly reduce their chance of a heart atack. the trick though, is stoping at one beer. however, the study showed that women that dring one beer a day, have a significantly increased chance of a heart atack. this has something to do with the fact that men have the ability to process 6 times more alchohol than women(something to do with an enzyme or something)

Answer by jadryn8888
Interesting question. There is a condition known as hyponatremia, or water intoxication. It is the extreme opposite of dehydration. This condition occurs when the balance between salt and water levels get out of balance. It can lead to swelling of the brain and leakage of fluids into the lungs. It normally occurs when athletes sweat heavily and lose both salt and water, yet only replace the water. In other words, it isn't the water that cause the problem, it is the lack of salt. Please do not exceed 100 ounces per day, even if you notice no ill effects. If you are getting some possible symptoms, you likely should cut back to 64 ounces per day.
