ANN ARBOR, Mich. â€" Twenty universities in the U.S. and Canada are developing plans for long-term research projects to help protect and restore the Great Lakes.

The University of Michigan is among the participants in the collaboration, which was announced Monday. It's called the Great Lakes Futures Project.

It will begin with a series of papers describing factors that have affected the lakes over the past 50 years and those expected to have an effect in the next 50 years. Among them are invasive species, climate change, the economy and chemical pollution.

The studies are expected to help academics, government officials, industry and others answer big-picture questions such as how to manage watersheds.

The project also will produce scholarly and popular publications and conduct public events with schools and community groups.

5 gallon tank, Betta or two African Dwarf Frogs after cycling. Do your research. :)

Well all animals require a certain amount of care. There's a price with that "cuteness". 10 gallon starter kits are sold around 50-60 dollars. If you fully cycle the tank (grow nitrifying bacteria) and set it all up with gravel, plants etc you have many options. Cherry Barbs Endlers Guppies A single betta splenden Shrimp Smaller Snails African Dwarf Frogs A 5 gallon starter kit is around 30 dollars and you'll have to cycle and set it up and this can house a single betta splenden with smaller shrimp and snails but that's it. 5 gallons are meant for betta's and no other fish. A 10g with just the tank, no filter, no heater no nothing is around 20 dollars and if you buy sand you accomendate 3 hermit crabs. You'll have to buy a 10 dollar top hood and keep the terrarium in a humid place though. Hermit crabs require lots of water, humidity, climbing places, non toxic decor, and 3+ inches of sand to burrow in. You'll have to buy them food and feed them lettuce and green vegetables to keep them healthy. You have to spray the glass with warm water to keep the humidity and sprinkle some on the sand. Later on you might have to buy a humidifier. You also have to scoop out their poop and change a bit of their sand monthly. There is no animal that is cheap. There is not animal that can live in the bowl. If you don't want to make it suffer and live a slow painful life you'll need to stretch your wallet and research a little. You are keeping a live animal, fish are just like any cute fluffy bunny or pup or cat the pain they feel is real and they can suffer.
