The Mars rover Curiosity has completed its first Foursquare check-in, letting everyone know that, yes, it is still on Mars.

The rover is not the first check-in beyond planet Earth. Expedition 25 Commander Douglas Wheelock holds that distinction, checking in from the international space station and unlocking the NASA Explorer Badge, which those of us here on Earth can get by visiting space-related locales. Wheelock’s check-in took place in October 2010. So, Curiosity’s a little late to the outside-of-Earth check-in race. But it is, indeed, the first check-in from another planet.

It’s definitely up there for one of the best marketing opportunities Foursquare could ask for, with the company even going so far as to invoke Carl Sagan:

Today, NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover checked in for the first time on Mars, marking the first Foursquare check-in ever on another planet (and the second check-in in space!). Carl Sagan would be proud.

Track NASA and Mars Curiosity on Foursquare. Oh, and good luck resisting the urge to click the “been there” button on Gale Crater.

Question by Nelson: I heard the term "Test the water" to see how much seller is motivated? How do you "test the water"? What kind of questions do you ask and what type of answers do you look for when you "test the water" to see how low the seller or seller's agent will go? Best answer for I heard the term "Test the water" to see how much seller is motivated? How do you "test the water"?:

Well, you can ask if they have had any offers before, but ask it in a way that makes them hint as to why none of the offers got accepted, if there were other offers. That's a big indicator. If they say they had other offers, but none of them were high enough or something like that, then you'll know that they may be serious about getting their list price. Try to find out if they are in a rush to move or not. You will have to find a clever way to ask this, but if they are in a hurry to move, they will be more likely to negotiate rather than if they have all the time in the world. Normally, you can gather some information without even asking. Are they offering any incentives (like closing costs, repair allowances, agent bonus, etc..) If they are offering an incentive, that means they are probably motivated. Days on the market could also indicate thier motivation. If it's been on the market a long time, chances are they are probably getting anxious to sell. There's really no good way to find out how low they are willing to go, short of making an offer. Sellers want to get the highest price possible for thier homes and they will avoid letting you know at all costs, how low they will go. Any agent representing them that tells you otherwise is not doing thier job representing the seller. You should be able to get a general idea of whether or not they are willing to budge. Just go with your instincts and try them with an offer.
