TO GO WITH AFP STORY US-SCIENCE-PALEONTOLOGY This image courtesy of the University of Chicago shows a new species of plant-eating dinosaur with tiny, 1-inch-long jaws which has come to light in South African rocks dating to the early dinosaur era, some 200 million years ago. Researchers have identified a species of puny dinosaur so odd looking -- quills like a porcupine, a parrot-like beak and fangs like a vampire -- it probably deserved a small part in 'Jurassic Park.' The finding was reported October 3, 2012 in the online journal ZooKeys by Paul Sereno, a paleontologist and dinosaur specialist at the University of Chicago. He did so belatedly. The specimen was first chipped out of a slab of red rock in southern Africa in the 1960s, and Sereno viewed it in 1983 at Harvard University. Sereno told The New York Times that when he first saw it, 'my eyes popped, as it was clear this was a new species.' = RESTRICTED TO EDITORIAL USE - MANDATORY CREDIT ' AFP PHOTO / UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO/TYLER KEILLOR/' - NO MARKETING NO ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS - DISTRIBUTED AS A SERVICE TO CLIENTS = FOR ONE-TIME USE TO GO WITH STORY TYLER KEILLOR/AFP/GettyImages

Question by mirandasp: Can "gray water" from the shower be used safely to water houseplants? I'm concerned about the soap in used shower water harming plants, but I'm into conservation and recycling so I'd like to reuse some of my shower water for plants or some other household task. Best answer for Can "gray water" from the shower be used safely to water houseplants?:

Answer by Renate
Yes, plants actually like soapy water; if the water has no other chemicals in it.

Answer by Daniel M99
Some plants will tolerate soapy water, but that is not to say it is good for them, nor would it be sanitary for you. Let the shower water go down the drain. If you are concerned about recycling, use biodegradable soap and consider yourself "green".

Answer by singhbandhu
it depends from plant to plant. some plants like alkaline environments whereas others like acidic environments . However the list of plants liking alkaline (soapy) environments is more.

yes

thoughts on "gray water" Use rinse water saved from Dathing or clothes washing to water indoor plants. Do not use soapy water on indoor plants. It could damage them. Soapy water that comes from soap you can use on your skin is OK for outdoor plants. Do not use water with bleach or borax compound in it on plants. It could damage them. Rinse water can be used on outdoor or indoor plants. Use the "gray" water that siphons from your washing machine into a laundry tub for cleaning, to flush the toilet, or water plants. See directions for using "gray" water on plants. Use all "gray" water as soon as possible. Do not store longer than 24 hours. Put "gray" water (saved from cleaning, bathing, etc.) in the toilet - not the flush tank - when it needs flushing. Otherwise, if the system loses pressure, "gray" water in the tank could back-siphon and get into your drinking water system.
